The African and Caribbean War Veteran’s Memorial is remembering and commemorating the people from the countries in Africa and the Caribbean who volunteered for armed service alongside the British and Allied Forces during the First and Second World Wars. They were in the following: WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Air Force), ATS(Auxiliary Territorial Service); RWAFF (Royal West African Frontier Force), the 81st and 82nd West African Divisions, KAR (Kings African Rifles), BWIR (British West Indies Regiment), among other forces and regiments. A significant number played key roles in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force as fighter pilots, bomb aimers, air gunners, as well as being ground staff and administrators; they also served in the Royal Engineers.
